Round 2 of the GH Beta Motorcycles Eastern Centre Enduro Championship at Iken proved to be a resounding success, overcoming early concerns to deliver a full day of competitive racing in excellent conditions.
Significant effort from the working party on both leading up to the event and days before ensured the event could go ahead, despite strong winds on Saturday threatening to strip the course of its tape. Fortunately, conditions stabilised overnight, and by Sunday the only things moving at speed were the riders, who took full advantage of the prime Suffolk sand.
With a sold-out and highly competitive entry list, racing was intense across all classes. The course featured three fast yet technical special tests, combining sandy stubble fields with flowing woodland sections. The layout offered a balanced challenge that suited both motocross and enduro specialists, resulting in close and exciting racing throughout the day.
In the Championship class, Ben Cole secured victory ahead of Ben Clarke in second, with Sam Nunn completing the podium. The Expert class was won by Syd Bales, followed by Adam Reeve and Dean Smith. In the Expert Vets category, Tim Warnes took the top step, with Tim Rose second and James Yearley third.
The Clubman class saw Jake Tansley take first place, ahead of Ryan Mackintosh and Bailey Jackson. In the Clubman Vets 40+ category, Michael Ridge claimed victory, with Sam Holoryd and Chris Drane finishing second and third respectively. John Hilton led the Clubman Vets 50+ class, followed by Spencer Newland and Richard Squirrel, while Mark Chapman topped the Clubman Vets 60+ class, with Phil Roberts finishing in second.
The event also featured youths for the first time.
The top club finishes in the various classes were, Jake Rackham being 4th in Championship, Sid Bales winning expert, Bailey Jackson 3rd in clubman, Matt Valentine 6th clubman vet and John Bishop in 5th in Clubman Supervet. Apologies if missed anyone.
Thanks must go to the Landowner, who requested a donation to the East Anglian Air Ambulance rather than a fee for using the land, and all those who helped with setting up, on the day and everything in between.
Attention now turns to the another round of the Eastern Centre Enduro Championship, hosted by the club at Butley on 16th August. The venue promises more of the renowned Suffolk sand, offering riders another excellent test regardless of weather conditions.
We always welcome help from volunteers and sponsors whose contributions remain vital in enabling the successful running and future growth of events.
